Frequently asked questions

How Do I Book ?

You can contact us on 07395 099923 and we will be happy to talk through your booking. Alternatively you can email your request to whitstablemotorhomehire@gmail.com. A £250 non-refundable booking deposit is required to secure your booking. The balance of the hire charge will need to be paid 4 weeks prior to the start of the hire. If your hire falls within 4 weeks of booking the full hire fee will need to be paid to secure your booking. The damage security deposit will need to be paid 48hrs prior to collection. Please see the questions below for information on the damage security deposit.

What Documents Do I Need To Provide ?

We will need a copy of your driving licence and anybody else who wishes to drive the motorhome.

We will also require Two proofs of address for each named driver – These can be utility bills, bank statements, council tax bill, credit card statements etc, but they do need to be dated within the last 3 months of the first day of your hire.

DVLA driving licence check codes will also be required for all drivers. Please see “How do I obtain a DVLA check code” question further down the page for details.

Who Can Drive?

Anyone between the ages of 23-75 who has held the required license, for at least 2 years, and has current driving experience can drive our motorhomes. We will ask you to verify your license by sending a DVLA check code to us. Drivers between the ages of 76-79 have an increased damage security deposit. This is set by our insures and we are unable to wavier this.

What Driving Licence Do I Require?

Our current motorhome is under 3.5 tonne and can be driven on a standard car B licence entitlement. The motorhomes are also automatic so can be driven on automatic only licences.

How Do I Obtain A DVLA Check Code?

As we will require confirmation of your driving licence and any endorsements you may or may not have we will need to access your online DVLA record. This can be done with the use of your National Insurance number via this link: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Once you have logged in, please select the “Share your licence information” option and select “Create a code”. This code is valid for 21 days and must be sent to us prior to collecting the motorhome. This code can only be accessed once so please do not open the code prior to sending to us.

How Much Is The Damage Security Deposit?

For drivers between the ages of 23-75 the damage security deposit is £750. For drivers 76-79 the damage security deposit is £1000. These rates are set by our insures and we can not reduce these. The damage security deposit must be paid 48HRS prior to collection of your motorhome and will be returned within 7 working days of a undamaged motorhome being returned to us. What Is A Damage Security Deposit?

Our insurance company requires that we take a damage security deposit from hirers. This is designed to cover the excess associated with the insurance policy. What this means in practice is that should you damage the van, its contents or third party property/vehicles you’ll be liable for the first £750 of damage caused. The damage security deposit is increased to £1000 for drivers aged 76-79. The insurance company also insist that the payment is trackable so cash is not allowable and the damage security deposit must be paid via bank transfer, 48 hours prior to hire. If the motorhome is returned to us without any damage, you will be refunded the full damage security deposit within 7 working days. We usually aim to refund this the next working day but that is not always possible.

If you were to have an accident or damage the van we would take the repair costs from your security deposit and return the remaining balance back to you once the vehicle has been repaired.

Along as you are driving the motorhome in accordance with our terms and conditions you will never be asked for more money even if the repair cost more than the security deposit. Our insurance company will cover the remaining repair bill.

Damage security deposits are an industry standard across all forms of hire. Some companies hide this within the terms and conditions but we like to be upfront from the start so our customers know exactly what they will need to pay.

Is There A Mileage Limit?

1200 miles per week in UK (milage in excess of this will incur a fee of £0.20p per mile)

Can I Take My Pet?

There is no charge for dogs, maximum of 1 per hire, subject to approval by Whitstable Motorhome Hire LTD at time of booking. All pets must be secured when travelling. Any additional cleaning required as a result of a dog will be as per extra charges in section 15 of the Terms & Conditions.

How Long Can I Hire For?

Our shortest hire periods are for 3 night trips. We may from time to time offer shorter trips. You can hire for as long as you require. Please contact us for special rates on long hires

Where Do I Collect The Motorhome From?

You will collect the motorhome from our location in Whitstable, Kent. Full details will be provided prior to collection.

What Is Provided?

We provide a range of crockery, cutlery and utensils for you to use along with a range of safety equipment. We even supply 2 bottles of gas with your hire. You will need to provide your own bedding such as pillows and sleeping bags, towels, although these can be provided at no additional cost if requested in advance. Make sure you have taken out travel insurance to cover you in the event that you lose or damage any of your personal possessions as we cannot be held responsible for any personal items.

Can I Take The Motorhome Abroad?

You can take our motor home to Europe/Ireland, although prior notice must be authorised before your date of travel.

Can I Leave My Vehicle With You?

Yes, we provide off-road parking, covered by CCTV at our premises for your vehicle during the hire period. Vehicles are left at owners risk.

When Can I Collect The Motorhome?

The motorhome will be available for collection from 3pm and must be returned for 10:30am.

We may be able to adjust these times to suit but this is not always possible. Please check with us before booking if you wish to change the collection and drop off times.

How Do I Use The Onboard Equipment?

You will be given a comprehensive demonstration upon collection that will cover all equipment from oven to heating to TV’s for our customers ease. We will also supply you with a help guide for when you are on your trip in case you run into any difficulties.

What If I Damage The Motorhome?

Stay calm – accidents happen. If it’s a serious accident or a third party is involved please call the relevant emergency services and log the incident in the first instance. Call us and advise what damage has occurred
